The essentials, in five points
- Minedor sets no cookie and uses no tracker, no advertising, no analytics.
- There is no account: no sign-up, no e-mail, no password asked to play.
- Your progress stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
- The only piece of data you can send us is the nickname you choose if — and only if — you decide to submit your score to the world record.
- No data is sold, rented or passed on to a third party.
1. Who is the data controller
A personal site, with no commercial activity, published by a private individual living in Belgium. The publisher's full identity can be disclosed on legitimate request (judicial or administrative authorities, rights holders) through the contact address below.
Contact for anything data-related: contact@minedor.be
Given the nature of the site, no data protection officer has been appointed: write straight to that address.
2. No cookie, no tracker
The site sets no cookie, neither its own nor anybody else's. It loads no external resource: no remote font, no third-party script, no external image, no social button, no analytics tool. That is why you will never see a consent banner on minedor.be: there is nothing to consent to.
Two local storage mechanisms are used, though, both strictly necessary for the service you ask for when you start the game — they are exempt from consent on that basis, and nothing they hold ever leaves your device:
- The browser's local storage (
localStorage), which keeps your games and your settings. The game offers eight saved games you name yourself, plus one automatic save; each takes its own key:minedor_save_v2_s1tominedor_save_v2_s8,minedor_save_v2_auto, as well asminedor_slots_v2(the list shown in the game),minedor_active_slot(the game in progress) andminedor_settings_v2(sound, sensitivity, quality, touch controls). Theminedor_save_v1key from earlier versions is picked up once and then left in place, as a safety net. - The chosen language (
mdr.lang), written when you click a flag or switch language from the pause menu: two letters, froren, so the question is not asked again on every visit. - The offline cache (service worker), which keeps the game files so you can play again without a connection.
You can erase either of them at any time from your browser settings ("clear site data"). The game itself lets you delete one saved game at a time, or all of them at once, with the "Erase everything" button on the Saved games screen (pause menu). You will then lose your progress, but nothing else.
3. What is processed, in detail
a. The world record (voluntary submission)
- Data
- The nickname you type (20 characters maximum, free), your run's score and the date of the day. A single entry exists on the server: the best score.
- When
- Only if you beat the record, type a nickname and click "Submit my record". Nothing is sent without that action from you.
- Purpose
- To display publicly, on the site and in the game, the best score and the nickname that got it.
- Legal basis
- Your consent (GDPR art. 6(1)(a)), given by the voluntary submission. You may withdraw it at any time.
- Retention
- Until a better score is submitted — the new entry then permanently overwrites the old one — or until you ask for removal.
- Publicity
- The nickname is visible to everyone on the home page and in the game. Pick one that does not identify you: a made-up name, not your own.
b. The IP address, to limit abusive submissions
- Data
- The IP address a score submission came from, together with the timestamp of that submission.
- When
- Only at the moment of a score submission. Browsing the site, playing or simply displaying the record writes nothing.
- Purpose
- To stop a single sender from flooding the record: past twelve submissions in one hour, the next ones are refused.
- Legal basis
- Legitimate interest (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)): protecting the service against abusive automated submissions. No other use is made of it.
- Retention
- One hour. After that the entry no longer counts, and every new submission purges from the file all entries older than one hour — a stale entry can therefore linger at most until the next submission, with no effect.
- Limits
- These addresses are never tied to a nickname, a score or a game, are logged nowhere else by the site, and serve no profiling.
c. Your progress, on your device
- Data
- Per saved game: the name you give it, the chosen character, the world seed, your gold, your pickaxe, your gems and jewellery, your dynamite, your lantern, the deepest camp reached, your personal best score, the creation and last-write dates, and total play time. Separately, shared by all your saved games: your settings (sound, sensitivity, quality, touch controls). A saved game's name is free: it does not have to identify you, and it never leaves your device.
- Where
- In your browser's local storage, on your device. This data goes through no server — neither ours nor anyone else's.
- Purpose
- To find your games and preferences again on your next visit, and to let you run several at once.
- Legal basis
- Performance of the service you ask for by starting the game (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)): without this storage, a game would not survive closing the tab. This storage is strictly necessary, and therefore exempt from consent.
- Retention
- Until you erase it: nothing expires on its own and nothing is purged automatically.
- Erasing
- In the game, Saved games screen (pause menu): 🗑️ deletes one saved game, "Erase everything" deletes them all. Outside the game: "clear site data" in your browser settings.
- Transfer
- The Saved games screen shows, for the saved game of your choice, an export code to copy. You carry it yourself, however you like; it is sent nowhere.
d. The offline cache
- Data
- A local copy of the site's files (pages, code, images, sounds). No personal data.
- Purpose
- To let you play again without a connection and to speed up later visits.
- Retention
- Until you erase it. With every new version of the game, the old cache is deleted automatically.
- Note
- The online record is never cached: it is always read live.
e. The host's technical logs
- Data
- Like any website, minedor.be is served by hosting infrastructure that keeps its own technical access logs (IP address, page requested, timestamp).
- Purpose
- Security, maintenance and proper running of the servers — under the host's responsibility, according to its own policy.
- Legal basis
- Legitimate interest (GDPR art. 6(1)(f)).
- Use
- The site's publisher makes no use of them: no routine reading, no statistics, no cross-referencing with scores.
There is nothing else. No e-mail address collected, no form, no account, no newsletter, no profiling, no automated decision-making, no targeted advertising.
4. Who has access, and where the data sits
No data is passed on to a third party, sold, rented or exchanged. It is accessible only to the site's publisher, with the exception of the world record, which is public by nature.
The site is hosted by Hostinger International Ltd (61 Lordou Vironos str., Lumiel Building, 4th floor, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus), acting as a technical processor. The data centre chosen for minedor.be is located in the European Union: no data transfer outside the European Union is carried out by the site.
Data could be disclosed to an authority if the law required it — in practice, there is almost nothing to disclose.
5. Your rights
The GDPR gives you, over data concerning you, a right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, as well as the right to withdraw at any time a consent already given.
To exercise them, a single address: contact@minedor.be. You will get an answer within one month.
To have your nickname removed from the record, write to us at contact@minedor.be quoting the nickname on display. It will be removed with no argument, and with no justification needed from you.
Two practical points. First, no proof of identity will be asked of you: the site knows no identity, only a freely chosen nickname, and demanding an ID document would mean collecting far more than what is at stake. Second, the progress stored on your device is not accessible to us: you alone can erase it, from your browser settings.
6. Complaints
If an answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the Belgian supervisory authority:
Data Protection Authority (APD/GBA)Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels
www.autoriteprotectiondonnees.be
If you live in another European Union member state, you may also refer the matter to your own country's supervisory authority.
7. Children
Minedor is a game for all audiences and collects no data that could identify a player — no more a child than an adult. Nothing is asked in order to play: no age, no name, no e-mail.
The only thing a player can publish is a nickname, if they choose to submit their score. A piece of advice that holds for everyone, and for younger players especially: do not put your real name in it, nor your school, nor your town, nor anything that would let someone recognise you. A miner's nickname is meant to be made up.
A parent who wants a nickname taken down can ask at contact@minedor.be; it will be done unconditionally.
8. Security
The site is served over HTTPS only. The nickname submitted is cleaned before any storage (tags and control characters stripped, length capped), and the record file is never reachable directly from the web: only the server program can read and write it.
That said, the best protection remains restraint: we hold next to nothing, and what is not collected cannot leak.
9. Changes
This policy may be updated as the site evolves. The date at the top of the page indicates the latest version. A change that genuinely widened the data processed would be flagged on the home page.
These pages are the site's legal information. They are not legal advice.
